With deep regret and sadness we received the news of the death of European Athletics' President Svein Arne Hansen. The Norwegian led the European Athletics for 5 years. Last year in Prague he was re-elected for second term.

Hansen was born on 6 May 1946 in Bygdøy. He was the Meeting Director of the legendary Bislett Games in Oslo since 1985. He also served as President of EuroMeetings from 1998 to 2006. He previously served as Vice President of European Athletics from 2007 to 2011 and was part of the Executive Board. Hansen was President of the Norwegian Athletics Federation from 2003 to 2015.

He died at the age of 74 in Oslo today after failing to recover from a serious cerebrovascular accident, commonly known as a stroke, that he suffered while at home during the evening of Sunday 15 March.

The athletic community suffered an irreplaceable loss.

Rest In Peace!
